Directions: Use the following steps in the critical reading process, then complete the pre-work
below in order to prepare for Scholar Groups.
1. First read: Read the text and then create a GIST statement that states the main idea.
2. Second read: Read with a highlighter and identify words that impede your comprehension;
use Inside/Outside/Outside to determine word meanings.
3. Third read: Read with a pencil to mark the text by circling key words/phrases and underlining main ideas.
